ILMINSTER A suffered a narrow reverse at the hands of Taunton BC in the Top Club.

The team of Louis Ridout (4 wood singles), Peter Mattravers (2 wood singles), Ian Lightfoot and Matt Hamilton (pairs), Chris Robinson, Bev Brister and Neil Rowe (triples) and Will Anderson, Paul Denslow, Jason Miles and Steve Turner (fours) went down 3-2.

On the same day Ilminster B kept their lead at the top of South West 1 of the Somerset Bowls League with a 68-40 home win over Yeovil C.

Scores: Des Maull, Rodney Parkin, Phil Cox and Barry Sims 16, P Lloyd 15; Dean Patmore, Colin White, Eric Keitch and Kevin Hamilton 22, S Mizen 20; Dave Collins, Andy Williams, Dave Crouch and John Ridout 30, S Best 5. Ilminster picked up alll 12 points.

Ilminster C lost 66-53 at Bridgwater B in the same division. Scores: Eric Turner, Ken Parker, Cliff Whelan and Briane Davies 13, J Capon 28; Bill Bailey, Bill Armstrong, Keith Swift and John Osborne 18, J Davey 30; Malcolm Norton, John Pemberton, John Wells and Steve Webster 22, I Hancock 18. Ilminster picked up two points to Bridgwater’s 10.

On Sunday Ilminster’s men lost 38-34 at home to Bridgwater in the national double rink.

The club’s Ladies were also in action on Saturday, playing at home to Westland’s BC in the Top Club, with Ilminster winning one rink and drawing one but losing on the other two. Team: singles – Dot Whelan; pairs – Betty Marner and Heather Grinter; triples – Helen Collins, Christine Davies and Monica Woodland; fours – Heather Sims, Rita Grout, Jill Wells and June Checketts.

Ilminster visited Shaftesbury for a four rink mixed triples match in the Wessex mixed league with Ilminster winning on all rinks and by 83 shots to 47.
