TWO McKinlays 1st Chard Wheelers put in excellent performances at the South West regional championships at Hatherleigh in Devon.

In the Senior Ladies event Wiebke Rietz took an excellent third place after a tough ride.

Rietz is a former SW regional champion and put her experience to good use on the difficult course.

Junior (Under-18) rider Oli Cooper also rode to a great third place.

He maintained a high pace throughout and fully deserved his podium finish.

The first round of the South of England youth track racing omnium series took place at Reading and saw some great efforts from the Wheelers youth riders.

Joe West and Emily Attfield both took overall third places in their respective age groups and young Rowan Ellis finished in eighth.

The velodrome omnium racing covers various disciplines including a scratch race, a points race, Kerin race behind the ‘Derny’ bike, a time trial and an eliminator. The second round is again at Reading on Sunday.

The Yeovil CC Tuesday night time trial league saw some gritty rides into the head wind from Podimore to Tintinhull and back.

Dean Ward and Justin Dance put in their usual solid rides and 15-year-old Ryan White took on the adults to finish seventh overall.

In the process he clocked a personal best time of 24m 4s for the ten miles.
