ILMINSTER made an encouraging start to the county league season with wins for both their A and B teams.

Ilminster A only won one of the three rinks against Bath A but still took the match 63-53 to collect eight of the 12 points on offer.

Ilminster B and C teams met in the league for the first time and on a wet and windy afternoon the B team took all the rinks to win 65-41 and pick up 12 points.

Last Tuesday Ilminster were away to Yeovil in the Wessex Mixed Triples League, losing 63-51.

On Thursday Ilminster were again in action in the Wessex league when Street were the visitors on a damp and breezy day.

Both teams coped with the conditions well in a close game which Street won by five shots despite winning one rink to Ilminster’s three.

n Chard lost 65-59 to Dunkeswell in their first home match of the season on a lovely sunny day. The match was close throughout and Chard won three of the four rinks.

Conditions were totally different on Saturday when Chard entertained Queen Camel on a slippery surface caused by rain.

Unfortunately one of the Queen Camel players fell and it was decided to abandon the match after nine ends in the interests of safety. Chard led 34-25 at the time.
