CHARD’S new skipper, Scott Wells-Burr, is targeting promotion from Premier Two of the West of England League in his first season at the helm.

Wells-Burr, who made his debut for the club as a 16-year-old ten years ago, said he was ‘honoured’ to have been given the captaincy of the club.

And he hopes that now is the time that Chard can fulfil their ambition of joining the top flight of club cricket.

His optimism has been sparked in part by two potentially key signings.

Keiron Boucher has joined from Westlands as player/coach and is set to open the batting.

And a highly-promising 18-year-old fast bowler from Melbourne will spearhead the attack. Tim Wighton, who has already played Grade cricket, stands an imposing 6ft 5ins and will hopefully pick up plenty of wickets.

Chard begin their league season at Cheltenham on Saturday.
