GEORGE Fowler, a newly-promoted Category 2 racer, travelled to Brecon in Wales to compete in a 66-mile Memorial road race.

The MacKinlays Chard Wheeler tackled the cat 2/3/4 event with his usual enthusiasm and determination and produced some excellent results.

Fowler won three out of six prime lap sprints, collecting several prizes along the way, and took a brilliant third place overall having stayed with the six-man breakaway throughout the race.

He has quickly established himself in this higher level of racing and is already accumulating British Cycling ranking points.

Top under-16 rider Emily Attfield is making good use of the Easter school holidays and travelled to Majorca for a training and velodrome track racing fortnight.

She has already met with success during the first weekend where she won not only the under-16 girls omnium races but also the Open senior ladies event as well.

Attfield is also doing some road and hill climbing/altitude training during her holiday.

Several Wheelers will be riding the annual Easter Classic on Good Friday at Castle Combe, in Wiltshire. These races, covering all categories and ages, always attract large quality fields and the racing will be intense.

Thursday night youth coaching has now started at Merryfield, near Ilminster, and full details are available from Brandon Ellis 01460-221479 www.1stchardwheelers.org.uk
