CHAMPIONS Chard rounded off their season with a 1-0 victory at Taunton Civil Service in Sedgemoor Division 2 of the West Clubs women's league.
But they had to work hard against a full-strength Taunton side keen to make up for an earlier defeat.
Chard rode initial pressure and then took control of the game, making incisive runs on both wings and through the middle.
The only goal came from an attack which started with Chard captain EJ Hines passing to Hannah McGowan.
She passed to Hannah Billing who worked the ball down the wing to Amy Goss who fired the ball across the D where it was deflected by the Taunton goalkeeper into the path of a grateful Ruth Butcher.
The second half was one of pure attrition with Chard closing ranks and riding the onslaught from Taunton with considerable skill.
Taunton’s frustration grew with every passing minute as Chard worked really well as a team both in defence and attack.
Chard: Anna Dewick, Kayley Gallop, EJ Hines (capt) Lorraine Szczepanski, Becky Black, Amy Goss, Hannah McGowan, Hannah Billing, Ruth Butcher, Ellie Seward, Lou Bentley, Kerry Arnold.
