CHARD Road Runners Wayne Loveridge and Martin Holley took to their bikes and running shoes for the much-acclaimed Peaky Freaky Duathlon.

The event involved 38 miles of cycling interspersed with three hill climbs on foot over ten miles off road.

Loveridge managed a very creditable 3hr 8m to finish 11th of the 65 competitors while Holley excelled in a time of 3hr 25m for 25th.

Route: Leg 1 – Cycle 20 miles from Webbington Hotel near Axbridge to Brent Knoll; Leg 2 – run 2½ miles to top of Brent Knoll and back; Leg 3 – cycle 7½ miles to Brean Down; Leg 4 – run 3½ miles to the fort at Brean Down and back; Leg 5 – cycle 10½ miles back to Webbington Hotel; Leg 6 – run four miles to Crooks Peak and back.

Maria and Chris Wadey tackled a challenging night time half marathon, called ‘The Dark’ in North Cornwall. Both performed well in difficult conditions to finish 141st & 142nd out of 238 in a time of 2hr 41m 11s.

Chard Runners were also out on a pre-London Marathon training run over 22 miles organised by Crewkerne Running Club.

The route took the 40 runners from South Petherton around the Somerset Levels.

The club’s runners taking part were Richard Clifton, Nina Wagstaff, Bernerd Genge, Paul Frazer, Kate Beaumont, Andrew Clancy, Richard Cave, Becky Barnacle, Ian Harris and Paul Masters.
