TIME Trial riders from McKinlays 1st Chard Wheelers began their season at the weekend with the CS Dynamo ten mile TT from Feniton to Honiton and back.

There was a ‘two up’ TT and a solo race.

In the ‘two-up’ juniors Oli Cooper and Sam Turner recorded the best time of the day for the Wheelers with 24m 9s.

‘Buster’ Lawrence and Dave Moran were just five seconds behind and won the veterans’ classification.

Rex Facey teamed up with Leon Cresswick and stopped the clock at 24m 40s while Colin Gibbons and Chris Mansell timed 25m 3s.

Dave Parsons and Dean Ward recorded their personal best for a two-up at 26m 5s.

The other Chard pairing was Mark Hughes and Bob Foxwell who finished in 27m 6s.

In the solo race, top TT rider Dave Moffett clocked 22m 35s – a great early season time – with Mark German on 24m 42s and veteran John Trout, now in his seventies, on 29m 25s.

This weekend sees the last round of the Icebreaker track racing series at the Newport velodrome.

Top Under-14 ‘trackie’ Joe West will be competing and hoping for more glory after winning his recent second silver medal in the Spring track league.

Saturday also sees the second round of the South-West youth circuit racing championships in Cornwall.

Under-16 competition leaders Emily Attfield and Ryan White will be defending their yellow jerseys on the Perranporth airfield.
