CHARD B continued their good run of form in South East 3 of the Davis Wood league with a 3-0 victory at East Devon D yesterday.

East Devon started the game very briskly with their forwards causing the visitors’ defence plenty of trouble.

Chard were slow to the ball and were unable to string a series of passes together.

However as the half progressed Chard began to play with more assurance and were awarded a number of penalty corners as East Devon stopped attacks any way they could muster.

The home goalkeeper pulled off a number of good stops to thwart Chard. The closest Chard came to scoring was when Toby Cooper pushed the ball over the line but the goal was cancelled out due to an earlier infringement.

With both teams using a number of replacements the line-ups were being moved around and Chard seemed to capitalise at the start of the second half as they were again awarded a penalty corner. This time Duncan Lewis found the corner.

Good movement up front saw a shot by Nathan Johnson saved but the ensuing rebound fell to Lewis who fired into the top of the net.

Chard extended their league when Adam Veitch surged into the D and passed to Andy Swain whose shot gave the keeper no chance.

Chard continued to press forward and went close on a number of occasions – the chances being set up through good running down the flanks by Durgan Cooper and Mike Winch.

East Devon were restricted to long hits and speculative runs which were nullified by the visitors defence.

Nick Liggins had a good game on the Chard left, stopping the advances of the dangerous right winger.
