CHARD firsts, playing with pace and determination from the start, recorded only their second win of the season on Saturday.

They beat Marlborough A 2-0 at home in Central 2 of the Davis Wood league.

Chard home side fielded a younger team than usual with the addition of some up-and-coming players.

These included Bertie Squire and normal second-teamers Kyle Wheaton and Jake Whitefield who linked well with the usual first team squad to provide a pacey attacking force throughout the first half.

Chard had a number a chances to put Marlborough out of the game but contrived to hit the post on a number of occasions.

One key chance was missed when captain Liam Murphy got in the way of a sweetly-struck reverse shot by Bertie Lupton.

Chard have been used to putting their bodies on the line for the team lately but this was somewhat unwanted.

Chard went into half time happy with the way they were playing but determined to pick up a rare victory.

After the interval Kyle Wheaton broke the deadlock in a quick counter-attack then Hugo Santos added a second.

Chard dominated possession, producing a number of chances, and saw two goals disallowed.
