CHARD B won 7-0 against a youthful Ashmoor B side in Exeter – and for the first time in weeks finished a game dry.

Chard started very briskly with fast interplay in this Davis Wood league encounter.

The first goal came after ten minutes when a shot from a penalty corner was stopped on the line illegally and Duncan Lewis converted the resulting penalty stroke.

As the half continued Ashmoor were unable to cope with the pace of Adam Veitch.

His goal-bound shot was deflected home by Mike Winch who has perfected the art of scoring from 12 inches.

Andy Swain then converted another penalty corner and the game was effectively over when Fraser Lewis slotted the ball home on the stroke of half-time.

Ashmoor put up a lot more of a fight in the opening exchanges of the second period but the Chard defence was resolute in stopping the attacks with Matt Edmunds having a good game on his return after injury.

The home side could not keep the pace up for the whole half while Chard picked off long passes to their front players .

One such run had a reverse stick shot turned in by Nathan Johnson. Shortly afterwards Veitch found Murray Wheaton who flicked the ball into the corner.

The final goal came as Wheaton returned the favour to Johnson who dug the ball out of the keepers pads to score.
