ALTHOUGH conditions were far from ideal 39 members of Windwhistle Golf Club attended a three man Texas Scramble competition.

Heavy rain and hailstorms made life difficult for the late starters, and sub par scoring became almost impossible, with only one team returning a score of below 60.

Among the early starters, Mike Cox led his team well to finish with a nett 61 which appeared to have won quite comfortably until Adrian Wells’ trio returned to the clubhouse, having beaten all the elements and recorded a score of a gross six under par including six birdies and an eagle to take first place.

Result – 1 Adrian Wells, Maurice Arnold & Alan Davis nett 56.33; 2 Mike Cox, Ian Fisk & Tony Stenhouse nett 61.00; 3 Sid Crisp, John Bonney & Brian Marsh nett 63.50.

A rain affected individual Stableford competition on Wednesday was reduced to 15 holes. Nevertheless 20 competitiors braved the weather and some fierce competition ensued.

Three players emerged from the pack, and George Willerton finished with a commendable score of 32 points.

This was equalled by Stuart Pope with Mike Hone just missing out by making a bogey on the 18th.

Result – 1 Stuart Pope 32pts, 2 George Willerton 32pts, 3 Mike Hone 31pts.

A warm and sunny day enticed a field of 42 Seniors to attend a three man Stableford on Friday. The recent rain restricted the course to 15 holes, making a par score of 62.

Once again, the early starters took advantage of the weather and Fred Oliver's team romped home with an impressive score of 73 points.

Close competition between teams led by Barrie Heath and Dickie Hall saw them finish in second and third places respectfully.

Result – 1 Fred Oliver, Tony Stenhouse & John McOmish 73pts, 2 Barrie Heath, Alan Chance & Bill Hilton 69pts, 3 Dickie Hall, Alan Davis & Keith Branchflower 67pts.
