ILMINSTER can look forward to a busy start to the New Year as they stage a three-pronged attack on national competitions.

Their latest success came in the Egham Trophy when they reached the last 16 with a 77-74 victory over a very strong team from Clevedon BC.

They won on two of the four rinks and drew another to secure a tie with Torquay United.

Scores: home: Myra Childs, Sarah Lightfoot, Will Anderson and Mark Denslow 13, S Branfield 27; Dot Whelan, Sue Spurway, Bev Brister and Peter Mattravers 18, P Branfield 14.

Away: Sue Donovan, Penny Stow, Alan Holt and Rowland Garland 19, J Hick 19; Heather Grinter, Maureen Mitchell, Ian Lightfoot and Jason Miles 27, N Pearce 14.

Ilminster are also through to the last 16 of the Denny Plate and the Masons.

In the Denny Plate the club’s men face Cotswold BC from Stroud while in the Masons the ladies are due to play Thornbury BC from Gloucestershire.
