ILMINSTER Town Ladies beat Team Mendip 4-0 to go six points clear at the top of division one of the Somerset Womens League on Sunday.

On a cold day and a very wet pitch, Ilminster played uphill in the first half.

They defended well and dealt comfortably with anything Mendip threw at them.

At the other end Ilminster created some good chances and eventually broke the deadlock when they were awarded a penalty which was calmly slotted home by Aimee Rowe.

The second half saw Ilminster continue to push forward, adding a second through Dee Cracknell who placed a perfect shot into the corner.

Amber Clarke made it 3-0 after positioning herself perfectly for a cross to head home.

Ilminster continued to play their game and rarely looked troubled.

In the last few minutes added a fourth when Poppy Hookings appeared to release a cross on the wing only for it to fly over the defence and goalkeeper into the top right corner.

Player-of-the-match: Amber Clarke.
