MATCH REPORT: Watford v Yeovil Town - Sky Bet Championship
THE Glovers picked up their second away win of their debut Championship campaign after an emphatic 3-0 victory away at 10th-placed Watford.
Gary Johnson made four changes from the starting 11 that lost against Doncaster the week before.
Newly announced loan signings Ishmael Miller, Adam Morgan and John Lundstram started the match along with full-back Liam Davis who replaced the injured captain Jamie McAllister.
Before the Glovers opened the scoring, Watford came close through Lewis McGugan’s free-kick which shaved the post and Marco Cassetti’s shot kept out by a last-ditch block from Liam Davis.
Yeovil, who haven’t won on their travels since the opening day of the season, broke the deadlock through goal-hungry centre-back Byron Webster on the stroke of half time.
Yeovil weren’t content with the single goal lead at the break, and withstood some serious pressure from the Hornets, with Héctor Bellerín having a shot blocked after Cassetti’s pass.
Watford were made to pay for their inability to hit the back of the net after Joe Edwards robbed Daniel Pudil of possession before leaving Joel Ekstrand on his backside and floating in an inch-perfect cross for Miller to head past Jonathan Bond to clinch a debut goal.
The Glovers were determined to keep the lead and with Fernando Forestieri and Lewis McGugan missing chances for Watford, it was apparent that it was not quite going to be their day.
The Yeovil defence prevented the hosts from breaking through. Luke Ayling and Shane Duffy both blocked efforts, and Chris Dunn in the Yeovil goal made a good save to keep the two-goal advantage in the away side’s favour.
Like-for-like substitutions with loanee duo Morgan and Miller being replaced by James Hayter and Sam Hoskins proved that Yeovil weren’t going to sit back and defend. The substitutes made a good impact and both came close with chances, which gave the Yeovil defenders a much needed break.
The Hornets pushed and pushed and nudged their corner count to 15 and their shots off target to 25. But the stats didn’t bother the Glovers one bit as they went on a search to find goal number three.
They managed to grab their third in the third minute of stoppage time.
Lundstram breaking clear of a high Watford defensive line to square a pass to Joe Edwards who made no mistake in slotting past Bond to seal the three points.
Watford failed to snatch a consolation in the dying moments sending 945 Yeovil supporters home happy with a sensational win.
