Yeovil Town v Birmingham City: Capital One Cup Second Round

This live event has finished
THE morning after a night of controversy at Huish Park in which Yeovil Town went out of the Capital One Cup to Birmingham City 3-2 on penalties once the game had finished 3-3 after extra-time.
The moment of controversy came right at the end of normal time when Byron Webster scored for Yeovil to take the game to 2-2 and with it the necessity for extra-time.
Instead of passing the ball back to Birmingham after the Blues had put it out of play because of an injured opponent, Webster amazingly scored from range.
Birmingham were furious with the supposed unsporting gesture by Yeovil. But the game went into extra-time and the Glovers took the lead when Luke Ayling smashed in his first-ever goal for the club to give them a 3-2 lead – this coming at the end of the first-half of extra-time.
Then came another controversy when right at the start of the second period of extra-time Yeovil allowed Lee Novak and scored unopposed to level up the scores at 3-3.
Birmingham then went on to win the penalty shoot-out.
Yeovil manager Gary Johnson apologised afterwards to the Birmingham outfit; while Blues boss Lee Clark was clearly unhappy with Webster’s supposed unsporting action.
Johnson has, however, appealed to the football authorities to look at the situation and see if rules can be introduced to deal with the problem of what to do when the ball is put of play because of an injured player.
