Cornwall put to the sword
9:37am Friday 16th August 2013 in Sport
After opting to bat first, openers Chris Jones and Tom Abell took the total on to 112 when Jones was out for 54 in the 18th over.
Hildreth’s arrival at the wicket upped the tempo and, along with his young partner, they blitzed the young Cornish attack to all parts, adding 265 in 25 overs before Abell was out for 111 off 118 balls which included 12 4s with the score on 377.
Hildreth was eventually out in the penultimate over after adding 70 in 27 balls with Lewis Gregory, who ended not out 24 off 16 balls.
When Cornwall replied, they were soon in trouble against part-time bowler James Regan who claimed the first four wickets to fall.
Regan took the first of his wickets with the score on 12 and three more followed in the 8th, 10th and 12th overs, while the score remained on 37.
From this position, there was no way back and Cornwall were eventually all out for 128 in 28.5 overs.
Spin bowler Neil Brand, who is at King’s College and plays club cricket for Taunton Deane, ended with 4 for 23 off 5 overs, two of which were maidens, while Regan finished with 4 for 31 off 8, with one maiden.
l The Seconds are next in action on Tuesday, August 20, when they entertain Essex in a Trophy game at Taunton Vale starting at noon, and then face the same opponents in a three-day Championship match starting on Wednesday.
