Buttler and Overton look forward to England Lions

THERE is a treat in store for Somerset fans because Jos Buttler and Jamie Overton have both been named in the England Lions squad for the three-match series of one day matches against Bangladesh A that gets underway later on this month.
The series starts in Bristol on Tuesday, August 20, followed by two games at Taunton, on August 22 and 24, where play begins at 10.45am.
This is the first time the County Ground has hosted a Lions fixture and there is a very good chance two representatives from Somerset will be playing.
Both Buttler and Overton are Westcountry lads and products of the highly successful academy at the County Ground.
Buttler, who hails from Wedmore, is no stranger to the England set-up having played in 14 ODI and 23 T20I.
He said: “I am really pleased and we have got a very strong squad for the series. “It’s great that Jamie is in the squad as well and it will be good for him and me to be able to play for the Lions here at Taunton.”
Later this season, the full England side play Australia in both the ODI and T20I formats, about which Buttler said: “I am waiting to see when they select those squads but playing for the Lions is a great opportunity and, hopefully, I can put in some good performances to put my name forward for that.”
Before the one-day series, Buttler will be playing in the two-day game against Australia at Northampton starting on August 16, which has only just been announced.
For 19-year-old fast bowler Jamie Overton, who hails from North Devon, this will be his first involvement with England at Lions level and he is thrilled to have been named in the squad.
Jamie said: “I am very happy to have been named by the Lions and it came as a bit of a surprise really.
“I have just been carrying on doing my business down here and hoping that eventually it would come but didn’t expect it so soon.
“I have taken a few wickets this season but never thought I would take as many.
“Two of the games for the Lions are in Taunton, which is great because I always love playing here at the County Ground in front of our own fans.
“I haven’t really had the chance to talk to people back home in North Devon but I expect quite a few of them will come up to watch the games.”
Tickets for the Lions’ matches can be obtained by calling 0845 337 1875 or logging on to www.somersetcountycc.co.uk/tickets Dave Nosworthy, the Somerset director of cricket, said: “I am delighted that both Jamie and Jos have been selected for the England Lions squad and wish them every success in the series. “It’s always an honour to have players included in national teams and with two of the games at Taunton there will be a great deal of local interest.
“Unfortunately, they will miss out on our championship match against Warwickshire at Edgbaston but their absence will provide opportunities for someone else to step up and play.”
