SOME of the biggest names in sport will be coming to Taunton later this month when Somerset County Cricket Club and Bath Rugby join forces to host a special sportsman’s dinner.

The event will be held at The County Ground on Thursday, February 21 and will see a number of this region’s best-known stars take part in an evening that will include a three course dinner, a question & answer session plus games and other entertainment.

The links between the two clubs go back as far as 1897 as this was the year that Somerset played a match against The Gentlemen of Philadelphia at the very first Bath Cricket Festival at The Recreation Ground.

The match ended in a draw but the tone was set for what would become a cornerstone of Somerset County Cricket Club’s history.

This strong association has endured for over 100 years and only two World Wars and the appalling summer weather of 2012 have prevented this annual partnership from taking place.

This latest venture is yet another example of these two great organisations working hand in hand to deliver a quality event.

From the world of cricket, former England legend and current Somerset Captain Marcus Trescothick will be present as will Somerset mainstays James Hildreth and Arul Suppiah.

Former Bath, England and Lions player Danny Grewcock will also be taking part in the evening as will England internationals Dan Hipkiss and David Flatman.

This special evening will offer a genuine insight in to the worlds of these two very different clubs who are both steeped in history and linked by over 100 years of collaboration.
