THERE was good news for Somerset fans this week when the club announced that Abdur Rehman is coming back for the latter part of 2013 and Pete Trego has signed a new three year contract.

Rehman (pictured) enjoyed massive success during his brief stay and took 27 championship wickets at 14.18 in four games including a career best 9-65. He also topped both the national bowling averages.

Chairman of the Cricket Committee, Vic Marks, said: “We are delighted that we have secured the services of Abdur Rehman for the latter half of the 2013 season.

“At the moment he is contracted to play the final few weeks of the season which will include five championship games and one day cricket as well. Subject to his international commitments we will try to extend his contract through into the T20 period to make him available for that as well.”

After he departed Rehman was banned from cricket for three months following a positive test for cannabis at the County Ground on August 8.

Chief Executive Guy Lavender said: “The club in no way condones the use of illegal drugs. It was heartening to see that he admitted his mistake and has been punished accordingly. It is now time to move on and I am very confident he will do extremely well for us next season.”

Rehman whose ban expires on December 21, said: “I am happy to be coming back to England to play for Somerset CCC, I really enjoyed my time there last year and will look to play with the same intensity and passion, I would also like to thank the Somerset management and fans for their support in what has been a difficult period for me.”

All rounder Trego, who enjoyed a successful 2012 in which he collected 50 Championship wickets and the Most Valuable Player of the season award, has signed a new three year deal.

Trego said: “Signing this new contract means that I will be playing for Somerset into my mid 30s which is a huge personal achievement.

“Not many players have a career that length so I am very fortunate to get this opportunity with the club that I love playing for.”

“These are very exciting times for Somerset and I feel that I have got a lot to offer with regards to us getting that first County Championship under our belts.”

Jos Buttler, who is in T20 action for England in Pune, today (Thursday) has been called up for the five match ODI series against India which takes place in January.
