Dr M. Glanvill

DR Michael Glanvill of Brutton Way, Chard, died at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton, on March 18. He was aged 84.

Michael had lived in Chard since 1934, and was educated at Chard School, Allhallows School in Honiton and Rousdon, before attending St Bartholomews Medical School.

After National Service with the RAF, he joined his father, Dr A.E. Glanvill, in practice in Chard in 1949, and was a GP until 1982.

He was active in both the Red Cross and St John's Ambulance Brigade, becoming Divisional Surgeon and later a Serving Brother. He was an Honorary Medical Warden to the Mendip Rescue Organisation.

Married to Mary for 57 years, they had three children, Peter, Wendy and Ailsa, and four grandchildren, Sally, Philippa, Faye and Edward.

The funeral, conducted by the Rev Tony Woodward, took place at St Mary's Church, Chard, on March 27, and featured the hymns, For Those In Peril On The Sea, Dear Lord And Father Of Mankind, and Rock Of Ages. The service was followed by cremation at Taunton.

Cox (daughter and son-in-law); Sally Glanvill (granddaughter); Philippa Glanvill (granddaughter); Faye Caddye (granddaughter); Dr J. Verity and Mrs G. Verity (niece and husband); C. Smith (nephew); Prof G. Smith (nephew); A. Sladen (niece).

Organisations represented at the service included the St John's Ambulance Brigade, Mendip Rescue Organisation, The Culmstock Hunt, Devon and Somerset Condors Hang-gliding Club, and the Friends of Springmead Surgery.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Bishops Funeral Services, Cillerhayes, Old Town, Chard, TA20 2AS.
