A TATWORTH man who allegedly collided with another vehicle in the early hours of the morning and then fled the scene on foot has been ordered to stand trial.

Jake Michael Strawbridge was said to have been driving in Crossmead, South Chard, shortly after 2am when there was a collision between his vehicle and another car owned by a female.

He was then allegedly seen to leave the scene and run away, and when he was later spoken to he admitted hitting the vehicle but said he left the scene to try and get help from his brother.

The 21-year-old defendant, of Watermead, pleaded not guilty that on January 7, being the driver of a vehicle where an accident occurred at South Chard and damage was caused to another vehicle, he failed to stop.

A review of the case was conducted before Somerset Magistrates and the matter was adjourned until April 23.

They ordered that Strawbridge must return to the court at Yeovil on that date for a trial to take place and until then released him on unconditional bail.
