NEROCHE School will be closed to pupils tomorrow as the school anticipates poor weather hitting the area.

A letter has been sent out by the headteacher, Connel Boyle, and the chair of governors, David Pugh.

The primary school also cited problems with their water supply, internet and phones as factors for staying closed on Thursday.

A spokesman for the school said they will be reviewing the weather tomorrow to see if they can reopen on Friday.

The letter to parents and carers said:

Dear Parent/Carer,

As you will be aware, South Somerset has been issued with a severe Amber weather alert from the Met Office for tomorrow leading into Friday.

In addition to this, we have lost water supply today for an hour and had intermittent supply.

As you will be aware we have had internet and phone issues this week and BT have confirmed that the fault is under the ground, this is scheduled to be repaired Thursday/Friday which is dependent on the weather.

Due to this significant fault, we cannot guarantee our phone lines, text message and emails will be operational or able to receive calls from parents.

At present most of our phone calls are being diverted to personal staff mobiles.

We have consulted with Somerset County Council today who have advised with adverse weather issues combined with our essential services disruptions that organising an advanced school closure is fully justified and the sensible option to protect the safety of our children and families.

So therefore Neroche School and First Friends Pre-School will be closed tomorrow.

We will be closely following Met Office weather updates throughout tomorrow so we are able to inform you as quickly as possible whether we are able to open on Friday 2nd March.

We will attempt to give you as much notice as possible to make alternative arrangements for your children for Friday.

We are fully aware of the inconvenience this will cause, however the safety of our children, staff and parents is paramount in this decision.

Should the school be forced to close on Friday you will be notified in the following ways;

  • A notice will be placed on the school homepage of the school website
  • By email (If you receive school newsletters you will get this email)
  • Somerset County Council Website – School Closure list
  • Local Radio Stations Heart/Breeze will publicise closures

Please keep a check tomorrow throughout the day for our Friday updates.
