A SIX-year-old girl has raised more than £1,000 with a recent fundraising drive to help children with cancer.

Jenna Cahn, from Thorncombe, has raised £550.20 on a Just Giving page as well as £476 at a cake sale in the village hall.

Jenna’s mum Kate said she is extremely proud of her daughter’s fundraising generous drive and overwhelmed by the support from the community.

Kate said: “Jenna decided last month that she wanted to ‘raise money for people who needed it’.

“She decided she would like to run a cake sale to raise funds for Children with Cancer UK.”

The two-hour cake sale was held at Thorncombe Village Hall on Saturday, March 4.

Kate added: “Jenna’s Cake Sale went very well, with lots of cake and raffle prizes being donated and she made just under £500.

“With her Just Giving contributions she’s now raised just over £1,000, which we think is amazing.”

Jenna said: “I think it is going really good because I’ve done a really big thing to help people and everyone thinks that I should be proud of myself and I am.

“I wanted to make more than £100 and I did.”

Despite busting her target, Jenna wants to keep raising more money and her parents are keeping the Just Giving page open for anymore donations.

Kate added: “It would be amazing to see just how far she can go with this.

“Anything she can raise will help.

“My husband Robert and I are both extremely proud of what she has achieved but especially proud that she wanted to do it in the first place. We are also incredibly overwhelmed by the support Jenna has received.

“Jenna was inspired by a Dragon’s Den project at her school, Thorncombe St Mary’s, where the children were asked to find ways of raising money for Water Aid.

“We are so fortunate that the village we live in, Thorncombe, is such a supportive place and after a post on Facebook to see if anyone would like to help bake cakes for Jenna’s cause, we were inundated with offers of help for both cakes and raffle prizes.

“It’s an amazing amount and we think it speaks volumes of how people feel about Jenna and what she has set out to do.”
