A PERSON has been airlifted to hospital after a crash involving a lorry and a car.

The crash happened on the A303 near to Eagle Tavern shortly after 5pm and a person had to be cut out of the car.

The road is still closed between A30 Upottery and the A358 Station Road for Southfields Roundabout near Ilminster.

Emergency services were called including four fire engines and a rescue tender.

One casualty was trapped by their legs so crews got to work setting up the hydraulic cutting equipment so that the person could be treated by ambulance crews.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews released the casualty from the entrapment and worked with Ambulance Service to find the best procedure to safely release the casualty from the vehicle.

"The casualty now released and airlifted to hospital."

Traffic is very slow and it is affecting those travelling between Ilminster and Honiton.

There's also been a fuel spillage on the road.

It is not known yet if the injured person is a male or female or how serious their injuries are.
