SPORTS stars at Shepton Beauchamp Church of England School did their school proud in a recent race.

A group of students went along to the Yeovil Primary Schools Cross Country Race on February 1 and showed off their hard work.

This was the fourth race on the calendar, organised on behalf of the Yeovil Primary Schools Games Association.

Teacher Mr Tim Baker said: “I am happy to say that we have a group of enthusiastic children that are willing to train on their Friday lunchtimes and have a go at a new event representing the school.

“Edith and Grace started off in the first race and did a fantastic job with Grace finishing in 19th and Edith 31st out of approximately 115 girls.

“The boys then stepped up with William Hunt achieving 15th place out of 140 boys.

“Freddie fell and managed to pick himself up to pick up 77th place and Harry managed 79th place.

“Due to not having a team of four we couldn’t fully compete in the team points race, however the boys did finish 16th out of 23.

“The girls were the only ones with two in a team and managed 18th out of 21 teams.

“The children demonstrated determination, resilience, persistence, support for their team and, importantly, also they had fun.

“The school can be very proud of the achievements of the team.”
