A SOUTH Petherton man has appeared in court facing charges in relation to an alleged hit and run incident when an elderly man was left with multiple fractures to his leg.
Joseph Elford, 24, of Compton Road, was charged with driving a Toyota Hi Lux pick-up truck on an unclassified road at Compton Durville without due care and attention on May 16.
It was also alleged that, having been the driver of the vehicle when an accident occurred whereby injury was caused to Keith Taylor, he failed to stop and give his name and address.
Elford denied both offences when he appeared before Somerset magistrates, sitting at Yeovil.
The case was adjourned at the request of the prosecution and defence to enable a full pre-trial review to be held, and at the next hearing it is expected a trial date will be fixed.
The defendant was ordered to return to the court on October 19 and in the meantime he was released on unconditional bail.
