FIRE CREWS were called to another South Somerset barn fire yesterday.

The incident follows a series of arson attacks on barns across the region this summer, although the cause of this incident has not yet been confirmed.

Three fire engines from Chard and Honiton and a water carrier from Yeovil were all called to the scene at a farm in Yarcombe yesterday (October 3).

The fire started shortly before noon and saw around 30 bales of hay in the barn go up in flames.

On arrival crews confirmed the hay bales alight in the barn and got to work with two compressed air foam jets and two breathing apparatus to protect surrounding buildings.

There was also minor asbestos involved in the fire. Crews were reported to be standing by letting the hay burn out, which can often take up to three or four days.

It has not yet been confirmed how the fire started.
