A MAN accused of being part of a gang that stole more than £4,000 in alcohol and tobacco during a series of raids on shops in Merriott and Castle Cary has been remanded in custody.
Liam Raybould, 35, of Barn Orchard, Norton-sub-Hamdon, was arrested by police after his car was linked to the scene of the burglaries.
Raybould denied a charge that, jointly with others unknown, he entered as a trespasser McColls store in Castle Cary and stole cigarettes and alcohol worth £4,332 on February 17.
He also denied committing a similar joint burglary at the Broadway Service Station, Merriott, on February 19, and also driving a Peugeot 206 vehicle dangerously on Catsgore Lane, Somerton, on February 20 when he was brought before Somerset Magistrates at Yeovil in custody.
Raybould denied all three offences and the magistrates ordered the case to be sent to Taunton Crown Court to be dealt with on March 21.
In the meantime, he was remanded in custody.
