THE weather forecast was not good on Saturday, February 28, with rain expected in the SouthWest but it fell elsewhere, leaving the Chard area overcast but dry.

A group of 39 people met at Crowshute car park for the walks – a short four-mile walk and an eight-mile walk.

On the long walk the footpaths were fairly muddy and a stile opposite the entrance to Hornsbury Mill proved challenging!

Both walks proved that people do not have to travel far from home to enjoy exciting countryside and stunning views.

Members passed interesting wood carvings and totem poles, a redundant red phone kiosk converted into an information point and as the group ascended the hill at Avishayes the clock welcomed members by chiming the half-hour. It was a promising start to the 2015 walks.

For the next walk on March 28 the group will travel by coach to the Gordano area of north Somerset. Details from Hilary on 07941-631839 or email walkingwithstmarys@hotmail.co.uk
