CHRISTMAS trees are not just for Christmas in our area.
People can have their Christmas trees shredded and used to beat weeds in a bid to help their towns and villages look attractive long after the festive season.
South Somerset District Council has arranged eight shredding dates where residents can drop off their used Christmas trees. The mulch will then be spread on the district's shrub beds.
Cllr Jo Roundell Greene said: "People in South Somerset have become very aware of the need to recycle by putting their little brown boxes out to be collected each week.
"This is one more service we're offering that will increase recycling in the area and save used trees going to landfill."
Shredding takes place from 9am to 3pm on: Saturday, January 6, Lyde Road recycling site, Yeovil, and Crowshute car park, Chard; Monday, January 8, Shudrick Lane car park, Ilminster, and Lyde Road recycling site, Yeovil; Tuesday, January 9, Station Road car park, Crewkerne, and Cocklemoor car park, Langport; Wednesday, January 10, Memorial car park, Wincanton, and Prigg Lane car park, South Petherton.
