PORTUGUESE and Polish communities across South Somerset are set to benefit from greater access to vital services.
Somerset Strategic Partnership has secured funding for five new projects which aims to improve access for migrant communities in key areas, including the police, education and mental health.
The main elements of the projects include providing Polish-speaking PCSOs and directing migrant workers to basic services such as health, housing and social care.
Paull Robathan, chairman of South Somerset Together, said: “I am sure these projects will make a real difference to people from Polish and Portuguese speaking backgrounds to access the services and support they need.”
A total of £314,094 has been secured for the projects following a joint application by the partnership on behalf of various agencies, including Avon and Somerset Police, South Somerset District Council, Somerset County Council and the Mid West European Association.
Ch Supt Nikki Watson, of Avon and Somerset Police, said: “This money will help us to make sure as many people as possible are aware of the services available to them and that they feel confident using them.”
The projects will be implemented by the partnership agencies over the coming months.
