TWO bunches of flowers have been laid at the scene where a young man was found dead in Burnham on Christmas Eve.
Police sealed off streets in the town after the discovery of the body of George Lawson, in Abingdon Street, last Thursday.
23-year-old Adam Lapthorne, from Burnham, has appeared in court charged with murder.
He appeared at Taunton Magistrates Court on Monday morning, confirming his name and address - of no fixed abode.
He was then remanded in custody to appear at Exeter Crown Court on January 11.
A 27-year-old woman has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
George Lawson's family have asked that people respect their privacy at this difficult time.
His mother Katie Lawson said: “News has recently been brought to us of the death of our beloved son George Lawson. It can never be easy to receive news such as this especially at this time of year.
“We as a family now need time to come to terms with our loss and to inform all those who care about George about his death.
”We are co-operating fully with the police so that they can conduct a thorough investigation in an effort to bring whoever is responsible to justice.
I am asking that a degree of compassion be shown by the media, for us the grieving process has only just begun.
“I speak on behalf of all my family in asking that we be left alone to come to terms with our tragic loss in the days before we are able to lay George to rest. Thank-you.”

I am sorry to hear about George and i send my condolences to you all. I lived in the same house as him and got on really well all the time. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. Once again my heart goes out to all your family.
