In a statement, the Environment Agency said: “Moderate to strong onshore winds predominantly from a west or north westerly direction will persist for the majority of this week.

“This will cause sea levels to rise further than forecast in tide tables as we approach the spring tide peak this coming weekend.

“The time and date of the first forecast high water is 18:45 on 12/01/2017.

“The forecast tide level is 6.29 m AOD. The forecast wind strength and direction is Force 6 gusting Force 7 north westerly at the time of high water.

“This may result in spray overtopping. The time and date of the second forecast high water is 07:15 on 13/01/2017.

“The forecast tide level is 6.20 m AOD. The forecast wind strength and direction is Force 7 west north westerly.

“Please note all tide times are in local time and are using the 24 hour clock and refer to the high water time at Hinkley Point.”

The flood warnings come as snow and ice warnings from the Met Office are still in force for the Somerset area, and can be ready by clicking here.

There was a slight dusting of snow this morning, but not as bad as predicted or has fallen in other parts of the country.
