TWO Taunton men have been charged with drink driving offences as 26 people were arrested after the start of a drink driving campaign.

Karol Kalwaszwski, 24, of Taunton and Damian Wojciechowski, 32, of Taunton were charged with drink and drug driving offences just a week after Avon and Somerset Police launched their Christmas drink and drug driving campaign.

In the first week of the campaign police have arrested 26 people and charged 23.

In 2015, Operation Tonic saw 155 people arrested and 96 charged for drink and drug driving offences.

To deter drivers from getting behind the wheel, Avon and Somerset Police have named those charged.

Chief Inspector Kevan Rowlands, Head of Road Safety at Avon and Somerset police, said: “Our message is very simple, if you get behind the wheel under the influence of drink or drugs, you are risking your life and the lives of those around you.

“Each year we are disappointed to see the number of people who are still willing to take that risk.

"Even one driver caught driving under the influence of drink or drugs is one too many."

"It is not just us who can help make a difference.

"We are asking the public to help by calling 999 if they see someone who they believe is driving while over the limit, or providing information by texting us on 81819 starting the text with the word ‘Drunk’."
