SOMERSET'S Liam Phillips has pulled out of the Olympics after a massive crash in the first heat of his quarter-final.
Phillips, who is from Burnham-on-Sea, crashed shortly after the first corner of the challenging circuit.
It appeared that Phillips was knocked off his balance by a fellow competitor, before crashing to the ground.
Another rider then crashed into him as Phillips lay on the floor, pushing him off the track.
He stayed on the ground for several minutes before getting to his feet.
However, he was unable to compete in the second heat of the competition, and is therefore out of the contest.
It is a massive blow for Phillips, who was hotly-tipped for a medal.
