ARE you in need of a digital detox?

According to Holiday Cottages, those of us in the South West struggle to stay off our devices during holidays, with over 32 per cent of us checking our mobile phone every few hours.

Over 45 per cent of the 2,000 people surveyed, also said that when booking accommodation, Wi-Fi in the hotel is their highest priority, compared to 15 per cent who said kitchen facilities were theirs.

Over 79 per cent of respondents said that the most importance technological device to take on holiday would be their mobile phone.

Interestingly more people chose mobile phone than an essential item such as an electric toothbrush.

And a shocking 32 per cent to us confessed to checking our work emails while away - it has been reported by the NHS that checking emails while on holiday can significantly reduce wellbeing.

For this reason alone we’d definitely recommend picking up a book instead.

Holiday Cottages has come up with a survival guide offering tips and advice so you can have a digital detox on holiday.

They include:

  • Using a disposable camera instead of relying on phones
  • Using a paper map instead of a GPS to get a real sense of adventure
  • Playing traditional games such as I-Spy instead of devices on long haul journeys to create a sense of togetherness.
