SOMERSET County Council chairman David Fothergill has this morning (May 13), announced that he is stepping down as chairman.
Cllr Fothergill has served as the chairman for the past two years and is half-way through the usual four year term.
He made the announcement during a full county council meeting.
He tweeted: "Being Chairman of SCC has been wonderful.Very proud to have served & to have used the role to help others. But time for a new challenge..."
In his two years, cllr Fothergill has managed to raise £38,000 for chairman's charities.
He gave thanks to everyone who helped him.
Cllr Christine Lawrence, health portfolio holder was elected as chair and is the first ever female to chair Somerset County Council.
