DEVON and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service has donated 250 life jackets to search and rescue services in Chile, Uruguay, Venezuela, Russia, Estonia and North-West Africa as part of an International Maritime Rescue Federation-co-ordinated initiative.
Crew commander Giles White said: “The life jackets were due to be disposed of, and with my background of 20 years with the RNLI I knew they would be of use to somebody.
“I was put in touch with the IMRF and they were delighted to accept them.
“I’m looking to other fire services across the UK to see if there’s any more search and rescue equipment which could be used in a similar way.”
