ILMINSTER officially launched the town's celebrations for 2012 to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee this afternoon.

A group of children from Swanmead Community School gathered in the town square dressed in regal attire at 3.20pm today.

The 'flashmob' was designed to encourage people to attend the launch and behave in a suitably royal manner. Those who came along were joined by a number of town councillors, who also joined in the fun and wore crowns.

Ilminster are planning a number of activities to mark the Jubilee - for more information keep checking the Chard and Ilminster News.

Does anyone know why they are all in fancy dress?

Seems the only ones who joined in were the children pushed into taking part, and they looked pretty cheesed off (for want of a better expression) throughout the video. As for upcoming events, the mind boggles. We used to have a Town Crier who would annouce such functions, but even that position seems to have become defunct with the passing of the late Jim Olds.
