Flower show set for full bloom

PLANS are well in hand for this year’s summer flower show in Ilminster.

The Ilminster Flower, Fruit, Vegetable and Craft Show is at the Ile Youth and Community Centre in Frog Lane on Saturday, August 2.

It will be open to the public at 2.30pm, and light refreshments will be served by Ilminster WI throughout the afternoon with a raffle and auction after the awards at about 4.30pm.

For those who would like to enter, but cannot set up on the Saturday morning, the hall opens from 6.30pm to 8pm on Friday, July 31.

The show is open to all, including entrants from surrounding villages and hamlets, with the aim of making it a real community event.

A variety of classes are scheduled for fruit, flowers, floral art, vegetables, domestics and crafts, including photography, to suit all ages and all abilities. There are classes for young people and a ‘men only’ class.

Show spokesman Margaret Excell said: “Even if you’ve never entered a flower show before, why not give it a try – it’s a worthwhile experience and lots of fun.”

Entry is free, though donations would be welcome.

Free schedules are now available from Dyers in Silver Street, Town and Country in Silver Street, B&D Gardening in Ditton Street, the tourist information centre, the town council offices and the Spar Shop in Station Road.

For further information contact Margaret Excell on 01460-54043.
