TWELVE months after breaking her jaw attending the Royal Cornwall Show, Ilminster rider Rose Neave returned to win a coveted title at this year’s event.
Rose won the Horse of the Year Show working hunter qualifier at the show on her horse Silver Clover.
Rose said: “It was really exciting as it happened a year to the day after I broke my jaw while attending the Royal Cornwall Show last year.
“I have also never qualified for the Horse of the Year Show before and would never have expected my horse to have achieved such a momentous achievement – especially as it was his last competitive appearance before retiring.”
Rose added: “Silver Clover jumped the only clear round, which was so special as I had worried that he would fall foul as he had so little preparation this year due to my other commitments.”
Silver Clover negotiated the difficult jumps with style and although horse and rider had the only clear round, they still had to go back in along with three other rivals for final judging where they were given marks for conformation and ride.
“I was so chuffed when we won that I almost burst into tears that a horse who I have lent out to friends to hunt and that my mother enjoys hacking quietly around the lanes could beat the professionals, who spend months preparing, at their own game.”
