FINAL preparations are being made for the week-long Carnival celebrations in South Petherton.
A family fun day is to be held on Sunday, September 2, from 1pm to 5pm at the Recreation Ground.
There will be plenty of attractions for everyone including fun and games, a static classic car display, a tug-of-war competition, craft activities, as well as refreshments, barbecue and bar. And there will also be the crowning' of this year's Carnival royalty.
One of the main events on the day will be a balloon race where people will be able to buy a balloon for £1 and hope that it flies the furthest in order to win a prize. But judging by last year's result the winning balloon will be embarking on a mammoth flight - as the winner's entry flew to Serbia!
People can already buy their balloons from various outlets in South Petherton including the Brewers Arms, the Wheatsheaf, Churchill's the Butcher, One World, Déjà vu, Hamdon Financial Services, N&D News, and the Fruit and Veg Shop.
Children at South Petherton Junior School will be in for a treat on Friday, September 7, at about 2.45pm when, subject to operational requirements, a helicopter from RNAS Yeovilton will be flying in.
South Petherton Photographic Society will be hosting its fifth annual exhibition in the Blake Hall on Saturday, September 8, from 10am to 3pm where members will have examples of their work on display and will also be on hand to provide demonstrations of photographic techniques and give advice on queries.
And, of course, the Carnival Parade itself takes place at 7.30pm that evening where crowds are expected to line the streets to watch the ever-popular procession.
