AN ILMINSTER woman needs your help to track down a lost family heirloom after it was accidentally donated to St Margaret’s Hospice.

Anthea Boylston was shocked when she realised the book had been sold, as it contained a number of paintings of her great aunt - who was the first female Lord Mayor of Leeds and one of the country’s first female judges.

The scrapbook contains paintings made by Ethel Mallinson, who was a good friend of the subject.

The person depicted in the paintings is Beatrice Kitson, who was one of four female magistrates appointed in 1920.

Mrs Bolyston’s great aunt later took the seat of Lord Mayor of Leeds in 1942. She was the fourth Mayor and third Lord Mayor of Leeds in her family.

Anthea said: “She often sat in the children’s court. Instead of taking photos when they went on holiday she would paint scenes from their travels.

“The scrapbook contains a number of paintings. They are charming and also of historic and family significance.”
