PEOPLE at opposite ends of Ilminster’s age spectrum are being brought together for fun and games as part of a new project which is set to benefit some of the town’s younger and older residents.

The brand new Bridge The Age Gap programme was launched last week which sees children from the Cygnet Pre-school working together with members of Vaughan Lee House in Orchard Vale.

Last Monday, the pre-school welcomed Vaughan Lee residents and carers to take part in an activity day alongside the children.

Kirsty Woodard, Cygnet Pre-school chairman, said: “A programme like this is really beneficial to the elderly and the children.

“The care home actually approached us and when they did, we jumped at the chance.

“I saw a documentary on television where they did a similar thing, and it was lovely to watch the changes in the children and the adults.

“Residents came into the pre-school to take part in a session, and then our children are going to the home.

“They enjoyed getting involved with Play-Doh, puzzles, creative crafts and story telling.

“Everyone enjoyed their time.”

The children will be making the return trip to Vaughan Lee House as part of Sport Relief Week, which is set to take place later this month.

The fun charity fundraising event, which this year is going to be held from March 17 to 23, will see the pre-school and residential home once again join forces, this time for physical activities as the country looks to get active to make a difference.

Mrs Woodward added: “Both the children and residents enjoyed their experiences and we look forward to further visits both to our pre-school and to Vaughan Lee.”

Last summer, Cygnet Pre-school celebrated receiving a ‘Good’ Ofsted inspection.
