DO YOU want to be someone that represents and works hard to make Ilminster a great place to live?

Ilminster Town Council is looking for a new councillor to do just that.

The new councillor will be selected by co-option, instead of an election.

The mayor, councillor Val Keitch, says “We are looking for someone who is passionate about the town - knowledge of the town and its people are the most important qualities rather than any academic qualifications.

"The Town Council strives to make a positive difference to the quality of life for people who live or work in Ilminster and those who come to visit.

"We want a Town Council that understands the community it serves and comprises people across a broad age spectrum who have a wide range of experience, skills and knowledge that will help move the town forwards.”

Ilminster Town Council has 15 councillors and decisions are made through a system of Committees.

Meetings are usually on a Tuesday evening.

The town council is responsible for the many of the open spaces in Ilminster including the Wharf Lane Recreation Ground, Britten’s Field and Herne Hill ,this is in addition to managing the cemetery and the weekly market.

This councillor vacancy will be filled by the process called co-option – which is like applying for a job.

The starting point is to fill in an application form which can be downloaded from the Town Council website https://www.ilminster.gov.uk/about-ilminster/councillors/ or a hard copy can be requested by telephoning the Town Council Offices on 01460 52149.
