DRIVERS were asked to avoid an area south of Ilminster as police cleared debris after crash between an ambulance and a van.

Greenway in Dowlish Ford was closed after a crash involing three cars shortly before 1.30pm.

A spokesman for Devon and Somerset fire and rescue service said: "Fire engines from Chard, Ilminster and Taunton plus a supervisory officer, were all called to the crash involving an ambulance and a van, where persons were believed to be trapped.

"On arrival of the first fire engine, crews confirmed that no persons were trapped. The scene was made safe by fire crews."

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset police said: "We were contacted at 1.20pm about a two vehicle collision at Dowlish Ford near Ilminster.

"No one has been injured. The ambulance did attend.

"The road is closed in both directions due to debris on the road. We are recovering vceicles and would ask people to avoid the area while we do."

The road reopened around 5pm.
