A COLOURFUL showcase of art by schoolchildren goes on display at Ilminster Arts Centre this month.

“Schools Go Visual” is the sixth exhibition of its kind at the Arts Centre, and is a wonderful opportunity to see the high standard of art in five nearby schools.

The exhibition opens on Monday, February 13 with artworks by pupils from Chard School, Greenfylde Church of England First School, Neroche Primary School, and Swanmead School.

This year, for the first time, the exhibition also includes work by students at Strode College.

As in previous years ‘Schools Go Visual’ will range across many subject matters, styles and materials.

The exhibition offers the youngsters the valuable experience of displaying their work in a professional gallery environment.

Highlighting the importance of art in young people’s lives, Greenfylde head teacher Claire Oaten, said: “Art is a form of communication where children can express themselves in so many different ways.

"We are very pleased to once again be taking part in this excellent exhibition which showcases the breadth of talent held by the youngsters of Ilminster and confirms yet again that Ilminster’s creative heart will be well nurtured by our future citizens.”

The exhibition coincides with half-term, so family and friends can go along and admire the displays.

The exhibition runs until Saturday, February 25 and is free.
