ILMINSTER Town Football Club is once again hosting its popular annual bonfire night and firework display on Sunday.

Gates open at 4pm at the ground, with judging of the Guy competition set to start at around 4.45pm.

The big bonfire will be lit at around 5pm with a great fireworks display due to follow at 6pm, and there will also be a host of family-friendly entertainment.

Paul Webber, from the club, said he was looking forward to the event and hoped there would be a big crowd in attendance.

Mr Webber said: “With the great turnout last year we have added an improved entrance to the site through the pavilion entrance, level ground, a bigger bonfire, a larger BBQ, a bigger bar and more lighting.

"We have also got a samba band to keep you entertained through the night, and an added surprise on the night.”

Entry on the night costs £7 for adults, under-16s are £3 and under-threes go free.

A spokesman for Ilminster town council said: "Following the success of last year’s inaugural bonfire and firework event, Ilminster Town Football Club are organising a similar event this year on Britten’s Field on Sunday, November 6.

"In order to make the final preparations for the event, which opens at 4.00pm, Britten’s Field will be closed to the public from 2.30pm, and there will be stewards on duty at access points and across the area to make sure that the area is cleared of people. Signs have been put up around Britten’s Field."

Cllr Val Keitch, the mayor of Ilminster, added: “We know that people like to use Britten’s Field, particularly on Sunday afternoons, but we need to consider all the health and safety aspects of the bonfire and firework event.

"The safest thing to do is close the access points and not allow the public into the area whilst the final preparations are made and the event is underway.

"Britten’s Field will be open again, as usual on Monday morning.”

The bonfire and firework event which will be based around the new Archie Gooch Pavilion will also have a barbeque and bar area. Tickets for the event can be bought on the gate.
