PUPILS at Greenfylde School are ready and set for the start of Rio 2016 after holding their own Olympic Day.

The end of term fun day was organised by the school games co-ordinator, Bob Brunt, and held at the recreation ground in Ilminster.

The day saw classes representing countries ranging from Great Britain to China, Estonia and Australia and taking part in a range of Olympic and Paralympic themed events.

The day was opened in style by Ilminster’s Mayor Cllr Val Keitch, assisted by the master of ceremonies, Richard Baker.

Children took part in their own opening ceremony by proudly waving flags representing their chosen countries.

The pupils took part in a range of events including football, discus, javelin, boccia and guided running and there was even an equestrian event thanks to some very tame hobby horses.

During the day the children were helped by young sports leaders from Swanmead Middle School and brought the day to an end with a celebration closing ceremony.
